How Can I Change My Festival Plaza Back to Normal
The Pokemon games have always set very clear goals in front of the player. Usually, this involves stopping a criminal organization and becoming the Pokemon league champion. This often requires a good amount of time and effort as you build your own team of Pokemon. But what about after you've finished the game?
There has always been a little something extra to do after becoming the champion. Pokemon Ultra Sun and Moon is no different but because they take place on several islands, it can be confusing on where to start. With that said, here are 10 post-game things to do after you beat Pokemon Ultra Sun & Moon.
Updated December 25th, 2020 by Tanner Kinney: Pokemon Ultra Sun and Moon are mostly old news at this point. In terms of that generation of Pokemon, they are the definitive experiences. They were somewhat controversial on release mainly because they released so soon after Sun and Moon, and on a platform that was slowly getting phased out. However, the amount of things to do in Ultra Sun and Moon, even after beating the game, is more than a lot of entries in the series. For post-game enthusiasts, here's just about everything you can do after beating the game normally.
15 Defend Your Title For Glory (And Money)
Re-challenging the Elite Four is a great way to make money in a relatively easy manner. Grinding it out with an Amulet Coin may not be the most efficient way to make money, but it is an easy way. In previous games, the experience hardly changed aside from the Elite Four boasting slightly stronger Pokemon.
In Ultra Sun and Moon, there's a bit more flavor added to re-challenging the Elite Four: Title Defense. First added in Sun and Moon, title defense alters the champion battle to a variety of competitors, as you are the champion. This ranges from your rival, Hau, to a collection of other characters like the trial captains, important NPCs, and even the very first trainer you battled in the whole game. The battles aren't much more difficult, but seeing all of them makes defending your title worth it to do.
14 Collect Every TM
TMs allow trainers to switch up their Pokemon's movesets on the fly, along with opening move options not natively possible. It's in your best interest as a trainer to hunt down all of the TMs in each game to make sure you're covered for any battle in the Battle Tower or online. Not every move is useful, but even the niche ones can have a purpose.
There are 100 TMs that can be found in Ultra Sun and Moon. They're typically found while out exploring, although a collection of TMs can only be found by challenging every trainer on a specific route. Some are in PokeMarts, others are found through minigames. As long as you bring a guide with you, it's not a challenging process.
13 Utilize Island Scan Thoroughly
The QR Scan feature, available in both of the Gen 7 releases, makes use of the 3DS Camera to read QR codes to add information to the Pokedex. The native way of doing this is to exchange information between two versions of the game, opening the entry on one person's game and scanning it with another copy. Alternatively, there are websites that generate QR codes for easy use.
The Pokedex information isn't important. What matters is that after scanning enough QR codes, a special Pokemon can be found depending on where the Island Scanner was used and what day it is. This includes Pokemon not able to be obtained normally in Alola, including other starter Pokemon and some spicier options. For those looking to get some rarer Pokemon, this is a way to find them.
12 Transfer Pokemon to Pokemon Bank/Home
After all is said and done, there's not much else to do in Ultra Sun and Moon. The main parts of the community have moved onto the latest entry, so online features are likely more barren than on launch. However, there are a lot of memories in these games, and those who have completed the Pokedex don't want to see that time go to waste.
Nintendo's newest features to trade Pokemon up include both Pokemon Bank and Pokemon Home. Once a Pokemon is sent to Home through Bank, it can't return to Alola. Additionally, if a Pokemon doesn't have a green card to get into Galar, it is forced to sit in Home purgatory until its day comes. However, it's a safe place to store your Pokemon and frees up your copy of Ultra Sun or Moon for other use.
11 Start A Challenge Run
Once your copy of Pokemon Ultra Sun or Moon is cleared out and all of your Pokemon are safe in Pokemon Bank or Home, it's the perfect time to reset and start a new adventure. For those who haven't played in a while, the games hold up very well and shine in ways that Sword and Shield don't. It's worth it to revisit them, especially if you were burnt out by the back-to-back Alola releases.
Challenge runs are just the way to make an old game fresh. Whether you go with a classic Nuzlocke challenge, a monotype run, or variations on existing challenges, there's plenty of fun to be had. Plus, playing through the game again gives you a chance to use and raise new Pokemon, which is always fun. If there's nothing left to do, restart and do it all again.
10 Ultra Megalopolis & Poipole
Close to the end of the game, after resolving many different issues, you face off against Necrozma to bring light back to Alola. After accomplishing this and much more, including becoming the champion of Alola, you get the opportunity to return to Ultra Megalopolis. The reason for this is so that you can acquire the Pokemon and Ultra Beast, Poipole.
Poipole evolves into Naganadel by leveling it up while it knows Dragon Pulse. Naganadel is a poison and dragon type Pokemon that has a beastly amount of special attack and speed. Also, while you're going through wormholes anyway, you'll have certain opportunities presented to you.
9 Explore The Ultra Wormhole
The Ultra Wormhole is how you initially get to Ultra Megalopolis but in the post game, it serves another, very useful, purpose. Other than getting Poipole you can travel to various environments through Ultra Space, finding other Ultra Wormholes. In these wormholes you can find various Pokemon and Ultra Beasts.
Just finding more Ultra Beasts would be good enough, as they are quite powerful, but you can also find legendary Pokemon. These legendary Pokemon are the same ones from the previous Pokemon games. You can only catch them once so be sure to get the nature you want! Also, this can let you acquire shiny versions of the legendary Pokemon if you have the patience for that.
8 Catch Tapu's & Ultra Beasts
Another very unique and powerful set of Pokemon are the islands guardian deity's, the Tapu's. Right from the start of the game and continuing throughout the main story, you learn more about them. You learn about the important role they play in Alola and also how destructive they can be. Which makes it all the more rewarding when you encounter them within their Ruins.
Just as with every other Pokemon encountered on the world map, you can catch them but only once. While most of the Ultra Beasts are encountered within their own Ultra Wormhole, there are some exceptions to this. Within Poni Grove you can encounter either Stakataka in Ultra Moon or Blacephalon in Ultra Sun.
7 Unlock Mega Evolution
While Mega Evolution takes a backseat to Z-moves within this generation, you can still acquire it. After becoming the champion, you must travel to the Poni Plains and it's there that you'll find Dexio. You'll have encountered him a few times before this but this time he'll battle you and show off his Mega Alakazam.
After you defeat him, Dexio will, along with Sina, explain Mega Evolution. He will then give you a key stone to attach to your Z-Power ring as well as the Alakazite, letting you use Mega Evolution. If you head over to the battle tree, then you'll be able to battle for and buy the rest of the mega stones.
6 Battle Tree
The Battle Tree is Ultra Sun and Moon's main battle facility and where you can unlock a lot of very powerful items and abilities. To get there, you must traverse the Poni Gauntlet after becoming the champion. This is also where you will find a couple of very familiar faces and have the opportunity to fight them. The two main characters from the original game, Red and Blue, greet you upon arrival.
They will initially challenge you to a battle and you choose which one to fight. Afterwards, you can fight them again by climbing the Battle Tree. They are known as the Battle Legends and are faced at the end of the normal challenges as the 20th opponent. Furthermore, on the Super challenges, they are the 50th opponent. The Battle Tree is a great way to test your battling skills while also acquiring great items.
5 Collect Z-Moves & Totem Stickers
The main new addition meant to empower the player in Ultra Sun and Moon are the Z-Moves. You'll encounter many of these along your journey through Alola and use them to overcome your opponents. But there will undoubtedly be many left to collect even after you become the champion. Some of them you may have just missed along the way but others won't appear until after you beat the game.
An example of this is Tapunium Z, which is acquired after defeating any of the Tapu. This turns their unique move, Nature's Madness, into the Z-Move, Guardian of Alola. Totem stickers are another collectible that you can find along the way. It's likely that you'll have missed some so now's as good a time as any to find them. The reward for collecting them are special totem versions of particular Pokemon.
4 Festival Plaza
The Festival Plaza is something you can engage with at any point but it isn't until you've become the champion that it really opens up. Once you've become the champion, it lets you unlock certain premium goods at the various stalls. You'll also be able to change the music and theme of the Festival.
Festival Plaza itself is this generation's way of interacting with other people throughout the world over Wi-Fi. In it you can upgrade facilities, invite and befriend guests and even battle with others. The Battle Agency is also located here which allows you to borrow Pokemon and battle against other trainers for Festival Coins. It is also where Episode RR takes place.
3 Episode Rainbow Rocket
Perhaps the most fitting post-game entry is Episode Rainbow Rocket. This is a sort of epilogue to the main story which has you once again facing down a criminal organization that has taken over Festival Plaza. But this isn't just any group of criminals, it's a collection of the previous games criminals all gathered together and lead by the original games criminal group, Team Rocket.
Team Rainbow Rocket desire nothing more than to control the Ultra Wormholes and use them to take over other worlds. In this very special epilogue, you fight the various criminal leaders of the previous game and work to restore everything back to normal. In the end, after defeating their leader, all is restored.
2 Mantine Surfing & Pokédex Completion
Mantine Surfing is an activity that you will undoubtedly be familiar with. While progressing through the story, you'll need to surf to get to the next island. There are four courses, each with increasing difficulty and you'll need to complete them all in order to unlock something special. If you manage to become the number one Mantine Surfer in Alola, head over to the Boss of the Surf Association located at their Heahea branch. You'll be given a Surfing Pikachu as a reward.
Of course, the main thing to do after beating the game is filling up your Pokédex. Many of the previous entries have mentioned ways to do this but there are a couple more ways of note. You can find Zygarde at Resolution cave on Poni Island. Another Cosmog at the Lake of the Sunne/Moone with Solgaleo/Lunala after going through a particular Ultra Wormhole. And of course, make sure to trade to collect them all!
1 Build A Powerful Team
The final post-game activity to try your hand at is building a competitive team. This isn't as easy as it sounds but can be exceptionally rewarding. You'll need to catch multiple of the same kind of Pokemon, breed them to have certain abilites and so much more. Making sure your Pokemon have the right EV's and IV's is also important.
Finally, you can mix and match your favorites to create a diverse team able to take on other players. Having Pokemon that can control the battlefield, take a hit from anything and sweep the other teams' Pokemon will all help you become a true Pokemon champion.
